Position: Technical Sales Engineer
Reports to: General Manager – Sales and Marketing
Role Description: As our customer base and marketing efforts expand, we require an enthusiastic and talented Technical Sales Engineer to support our sales efforts and contribute towards sales and
development strategies. Switch Automation has accrued an industry leading reputation for the excellence of our platform and our ability to understand and meet the specific needs of our
customers. This role will be critical in supporting our reputation and by expanding market awareness of our platform and our expertise. The role also requires management of projects and relationships with customers and conveyance of critical customer requirements back into the development process.
This role will comprise two primary areas of responsibility:
1. Project Proposals & Contracts
Our customers and their projects possess a wide variety of applications, resources, and capabilities. Many of our customers require support and design services in implementing our technology.
The technical sales engineer will work with customers to understand their project, capture their requirements, and prepare project proposals and contracts.
2. Technical Sales and Marketing
Switch’s platform is innovative and highly technical. A critical part of the sales and marketing process
involves communicating features and applications effectively, demonstrating our expertise, and interacting with customers’ engineering teams to illustrate our solutions. To this end, the technical sales engineer will work in concert with our sales and marketing team to develop marketing materials, build
relationships with customers, and act as a representative of Switch at trade shows, industry events and meetings.
Full Description of Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Meeting with customers over the phone, email, or onsite to assist in technical aspects
of business development
- Making technical presentations and demonstrating how our products meet client needs
- Managing and interpreting customer requirements - speaking with clients to understand,
anticipate and meet their needs
- Generating technical sales proposals and contracts
- Working with the GM Sales and Marketing to develop a systematic work flow including a
library of sales proposals, contracts, agreements and schematics
- Researching options for customer requirements and new platform features.
- Maintaining records of customer communication and sales activity in our CRM and established
internal communication systems
- Working with the development team to ensure development schedules and deliveries are
being met
- Attending and/or participating in trade shows, conferences and other marketing events
- Searching for new clients who might benefit from company products or services
- Developing support material for other members of the sales team
- Assist the management team in implementing the systems and processes necessary to
commercialise the Switch platform for the global market

Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, computer science or equivalent
- Experience and proven success in a Technical Sales Role
- Demonstrated experience in the design and documentation of a large corporate solution or an
integrated solution
- Presentation skills
- Excellent knowledge of TCIP networking and Wi-Fi
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in at least two of the following – VOIP, Security
and access control systems, connecting and controlling audio visual equipment,
metering and/or sub-metering, RS232 communications, ZigBee, RF, IR, Z-Wave,
DLNA or UPnP, Bacnet, Modbus.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google Apps
Desirable
- Proficiency in Visio or similar
- Proficiency in cloud based sales, management and work tools and knowledge on how these can be integrated to achieve maximum efficiency - examples of these include but not limited to Salesforce, Wrike, Saasu, Trac, Insightly, Freshbooks, Workflow Max, Umbraco, NopCommerce, Basecamp
- Proficiency in cloud based systems and the integration and connection thereof
- Proficiency in Prezi, Sliderocket, Knoodle, Camtasia or Brainshark
- Video preparation and editing
