Switch HEMS showcased at Intel IEDS

Switch Automation on Evolve3 hardware was featured in the Experience Zone at the recent Intel Embedded Developer Summit (IEDS) in Taiwan.  This annual event is an opportunity for Intel to network with their hardware OEM/ODM partners and to highlight the next big growth areas of embedded computing.

Embedded computing, for those of you unfamiliar with the term, simply means computer devices that have a dedicated or specific use as a contrast to a personal computer that has some flexibility in how it will be used.   Examples of embedded devices include gaming machines, smart phones, GPS navigation, routers and modems although most people think of industrial PC's when they think of embedded computing.

Intel believe the next big growth areas for embedded computing are retail, in-car entertainment, medical devices and home energy/automation.  This is where Switch comes in.

Depending on whether you are talking to AT&T (50 billion) or Intel (15 billion) there will be billions of intelligent connected devices in circulation by 2015.  These devices will be interoperable and connected to the internet - think about household appliances such as washing machines, clothes dryers and televisions.  These devices will be connected and have a common means of communication (Zigbee, UPnP etc).

Switch has a cloud based software platform that enables the business or home consumer to connect all these devices connected via one common app on the device of their choice for  the purpose of automation and control but more importantly saving energy.  Intel recognise Switch as one of the missing pieces in this big picture and are actively engaging with us to learn more and introduce us to their hardware partners and their customers.

Intel, aside from being the perfect hosts all week, provided us with a booth so we were able to demonstrate the full platform capability to the other conference attendees.

All Energy Show, a resounding success

The All Energy show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre earlier this month was a resounding success for Switch.

We were run off our feet for two full days and provided a welcome relief from the hundreds of PV panels on display.

Two of the more interesting exhibitors included:
1. Charge Point - an electric vehicle charging station that has a cloud based back end.  We could integrate this into our platform for commercial buildings.

2. Nedap - Power Router, a renewable energy power management system with brilliant marketing and branding.
