Switch timeline

2000 – Building The Skills

Deb Noller and John Darlington are successful entrepreneurs creating technology to monitor, manage and optimize shipping and logistics, helping large companies keep projects on time and within budget.

2000
2009 – The Need For A Revolution

Introduced to the world of real-estate, Deb and John spot an enormous industry overdue for a technological disruption. Large companies were under utilizing the data within their buildings portfolio.

2009
2012 – Our Company Is Born

Taking advantage of their integration skills, they launch Switch as a cloud-hosted platform aimed at enabling the world’s buildings to be smarter and more sustainable. 

2012
2013 – Going Global

Switch expands into the U.S. market, opening our first office there. We partner with Dell, Microsoft and Intel to support the global deployment of the Switch Platform’s smart building technology.

2013
2015 – Money To Grow

Closed a seed round investment to grow our team and customer delivery capabilities in North America.

2015
2018 – Company Of The Year

Switch wins notable awards and is named Smart Building Solutions Company of the Year by global research firm Frost & Sullivan. We also closed our Series A funding round. 

2018
2020 – New Partnerships

Switch formally launches a global channel partner program covering various vertical industries. We closed an additional funding round, led by Gaw Capital, expanding our operations in Asia and setting up an office in Singapore.

Today

More than 100 million square feet are now integrated with the Switch Platform, reducing our customers' carbon emissions by over 17,000 tons to date.

Deb Noller is a dynamic leader who brings more than 20 years’ experience in technology, sustainability and commercial real estate to her role as CEO of the Switch Automation team. She helps large enterprises apply technology for more efficient business operations, resulting in millions of dollars in cost savings for Fortune 100 companies. Deb loves cycling, strong coffee and mentoring young women in the tech industry.

John Darlington - Chief of Research & Development 

John Darlington is the Chief of Research & Development of Switch Automation and is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the business from strategic planning to tactical execution. His roots as a highly skilled software engineer with deep knowledge of cloud architecture, Microsoft development technologies and control and automation systems enable him to take a visionary approach to software development at Switch– which has always set the company apart from the competition. John is a movie-buff, busy dad to twins and is fascinated with disruptive tech applications of all kinds.

Suellen Thompson  - Chief Financial Officer 

Suellen Thompson is an experienced financial and governance officer, Company Secretary and Chartered accountant with extensive experience in SaaS-based software businesses and international business. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Queensland. Suellen has been a member of the Switch Board of Directors for the past twelve months. She is an avid gardener, back yard chicken raiser and active member of an all-women’s choir.

Peter Rake - Chief Product Owner 

Peter Rake is a highly technical systems integrator with more than 20 years of experience implementing complex building systems for Fortune 500 companies. As Chief Product Owner, Peter is on the front lines of customer relations, training and program implementation. He works closely with all project stakeholders from the site teams to the C-suite to ensure seamless implementation of the Switch Platform. Peter is a frequent traveler and enjoys sampling local cuisine and culture.

Patti Mason - Chief of People, Culture and Impact 

Patti Mason is an expert in the built environment and brings deep green building experience to increase awareness about smart building technologies. Prior to joining Switch Automation, Patti served as Mountain Region Director for U.S. Green Building Council, where she managed a team, executed large scale events, served as a subject matter expert and oversaw market development activities across the eight-state region.

Derek Harnett has over 30 years of experience working with building systems on various commercial, industrial, defense, governmental and life sciences projects throughout Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. With a background in construction management, mechanical engineering and hands-on HVAC, utilities and process equipment commissioning, Derek is an accredited professional for both International WELL Building Institute & RESET Air Standards and an active member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.

Noel Gie - Chief of Sales 

Noel is a business-centric executive with over 20 years of global experience. He has a proven ability to create revenue and competitive advantage through innovative, data-driven software and services. Noel galvanizes people, technology and business through clear communication and alignment. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated success in building worldwide sales, partnerships, organizations and analytical solutions for Fortune 100s, mid-sized companies and start-ups. Outside of work, Noel loves to travel, ski and watch softball.

Kelvin is an experienced financial services professional with a background in developed market equities investments and investment banking, working in both London and Hong Kong prior to relocating back to Singapore. At Switch, Kelvin is helping drive future fundraising and business growth. Kelvin holds an MBA from the Kellogg-HKUST program.

Katie is a mechanical engineer with nine years’ experience in building system design and performance optimization. She has conducted dozens of building energy audits, developed several energy simulation models, and analyzed efficiency projects for a variety of system types for industrial, commercial, and residential buildings. For Switch, Katie applies her background in building performance optimization to develop new features in the Switch Platform for our customers and partners.

Robin Nguy - VP, Mergers & Acquisitions

Robin has invested in and worked with venture to late-stage companies across a range of industries. Joining from Gaw Capital, he brings his experience in technology, real estate, and capital markets. At Switch, Robin is involved in driving organic growth, and responsible for executing inorganic growth initiatives. Outside of work, Robin loves to travel, run, ski and play tennis. Robin holds a B.A. from Columbia University.

Nik Sanchez is an edge data solution expert, focused on providing data-driven results for customers across all sectors; commercial, financial, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, logistics and distribution, industrial, education, utility, transportation, and federal and state/local governments. With over 10 years of data-focused solution development and delivery, Nik has developed an acute understanding of customer requirements and resources, and is able to develop scalable successful program and project rollouts to reach customer-focused outcomes. Extensive experience working with and for Fortune 100 organizations has shaped a view and strategy for the complexities of working with both direct and indirect markets.

Leah Brownlee returned to Squire Patton Boggs after having served in-house for life sciences companies in executive and board level assignments, providing her with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities that growing companies in this field face across this global industry. Leah previously worked for the firm, and another global law firm, as an associate in the Corporate and Securities practice groups, where she counseled public and private companies in connection with corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and joint ventures, and on general business and securities law matters. She is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Life Science Practice and the Food Drug Law Institute, as well as active in BioOhio.

Matt Gould, Allectus Capital - Advisory Board Member

Matt Gould is the Head of Emerging Technology for Allectus Capital and a specialist in emerging technologies, with a background in Artificial Intelligence and the commercialization of language technologies. Most recently he was CEO of Arria NLG, a publicly traded AI software company in London. Previously, he was with Hewlett Packard (HP) where he led the Asia-Pac Telco practice as the regional principal for Emerging Technologies out of Sydney Australia, before being transferred to corporate HQ in the USA to take up the role of Chief Strategy Officer for HP’s Professional Services division. Matthew was also on HP America’s M&A committee, and had a role in identifying and qualifying acquisition targets. Matthew has degrees in Anthropology, Literary Theory, and Theology, specializing in Buddhist Philosophy, and a Masters in Business with a focus on Corporate Strategy and Finance from the Advanced Business Programme at Otago University.
