Position: Digital Building Performance Engineer

Role
- You’ll work with our engineering services team to help onboard and maintain buildings to the Switch Smart Building Platform for our customers’ real estate portfolios.
- Requirement to support customers in Asia and Europe time zones so may require flexibility in hours
Areas of responsibility
- Implement and configure the Switch Platform for client specific buildings and portfolios.
- Configure logical fault detection and diagnostic rules (Alerts); maintain a library of common Alert rules for Switch Automation to use.
- Perform engineering analysis on building systems to identify performance improvements and optimization opportunities.
- Provide project support for hardware integration (meters, control systems, Switch Gateways, etc.) and software implementation projects.
- Provide feedback to the product team using your expertise to suggest meaningful improvements to the Switch Platform.
- Develop a deep understanding of the Switch software and all the products, providing product feedback, in an effort to continuously meet customer needs.
- Learn and improve the internal processes used by the various Switch teams, providing feedback on efficacy and uptake.
- Practice ongoing learning and development to learn about the Switch platform and the key competitive differentiators.
- Ensure the services we provide are in accordance with the strategic vision.
- Meticulously manage all customer information in our internal systems.
- Development a deep understanding of smart building technologies and architecture in order to understand customer desired outcomes.
- Constantly update knowledge and learning of the industry, the competitive landscape, the Switch Platform and all ancillary technologies through ongoing personal development.
- Provide support to customers for data collection, manipulation and analysis.
- Customer service including troubleshooting, support calls, logging of software bugs, testing.
- Manage customer support requests. This includes some direct Platform troubleshooting and some management of our existing support team.
- Ensure technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Learn and develop all technical and supporting systems used by the broader Switch team and specifically the Switch Customer success team.
- Foster and promote fellow team members by sharing information, education, learnings and introductions.
Qualifications
- Highly desirable: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Energy, Electrical)
- Alternative qualifications: Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Physics
- 0 – 4 years of working experience in engineering services or in building services
- Experience with NYSERDA/RTEM and NY regulations
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, LEED, GRESB or similar standards or green building rating systems would be an advantage but not required.

Reports to: Team Leader

- Solve complex technical and scaling problems
- Identify and evaluate appropriate technologies for delivering Platform solutions
- Work for a global company intent on facilitating environmental change
Areas of responsibility
- Develop cloud-based software using best-fit technology for the Platform
- Review current best practices for cloud architecture and development for the application
- Design and develop DevOps processes
- Mentor junior developers
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Comprehensive, hands-on experience with .NET/.NET Core stack, esp. in back-end and API software development
- Demonstrable experienced in cloud-based solution development
- Understanding of web technologies, such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript etc.
- Working experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies
- Experience and understanding of modern software development techniques and practices (i.e. Agile Methodologies, DDD, Design Patterns)
- Tertiary education in the field of computer science or a relevant area
- Skilled understanding of GIT source control and code management practices
- Must be familiar with designing and developing back-end systems
- Ability to self-manage time and responsibilities to achieve business and project objectives
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Keen attention to detail
- Superior analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities
Additional preferred skills include:
- Experience with JavaScript or front-end frameworks
- A familiarity with start-up company culture
